In March 2023, my parents and I embarked on an unforgettable trip to the United Arab Emirates. Typically, I’m the architect of my own travel plans, but this time we opted for the ease of a travel agency, accompanied by a knowledgeable guide throughout our adventure.
Our UAE exploration began in Abu Dhabi, where we arrived at the unconventional hour of 2 am on March 26, 2023. After a restful night, we kicked off the next day with breakfast and a visit to Heritage Village.
While the camel photo-op stood out, the rest of the village left a modest impression. The next stop was the Mosque of Sheir Zayed, a breathtaking sight where I’d recommend bringing conservative clothing for women from home to adhere to local customs. It’s not worth to spend money on garments that you’ll only use once. You’ll need to cover your hair, your arms and legs, with baggy clothes and not wear anything slim fit or transparent. The pristine white surroundings, paired with the intense sun, mandated sunglasses for a comfortable experience.

Following a city tour, we hopped on the agency bus to Dubai, enjoying a scenic one-and-a-half-hour drive through the desert. The evening was dedicated to leisure, ensuring we were ready for the adventures lined up for the next day.
Our Dubai exploration commenced with a panoramic drive, taking us through the oldest neighbourhood ‘Al Bastakiya’, the nearby bazaar, and a stop at the palace of the Sheikh of Dubai, Mohammed Al Maktum. A brief pause near the iconic Burj Al Arab for photos added a touch of glamour. Throughout the bus journey, our insightful tour guide shared fascinating tidbits about UAE, making the ride as informative as it was enjoyable.
Lunch at the artificial island Jumeiras Palm offered a taste of luxury, followed by a stroll around the city center and a dip in the invitingly warm sea. Post-lunch, we ventured to Dubai Marina, a haven of skyscrapers exuding luxury. A two-hour catamaran ferry ride through the dazzling skyline, complete with drinks and snacks, made for a dreamy experience.
Evenings in Dubai were a spectacle, with a visit to the world’s largest shopping mall, Dubai Mall. Dinner on the balcony of a restaurant overlooking the dancing fountain and Burj Khalifa, the tallest building globally, served as a delightful introduction to traditional Arab cuisine amid futuristic vibes.
On our final day, we set our sights on the iconic Burj Khalifa after a hearty breakfast. The ticket, priced at approximately 60€, granted access to a marvel that awaited. Patiently, I queued up, surrounded by fellow eager tourists, and embarked on an elevator journey that whisked us to the 124th floor at an impressive speed.

Despite the bustling crowd, the abundance of windows and picture-perfect spots was a silver lining. For a more serene and immersive experience, I’d recommend exploring other skyscrapers with rooftop bars on the 120th floor. While Burj Khalifa stands as the world’s tallest building, boasting over 160 floors, the visit allows you access only up to the 125th floor. To fully relish panoramic views of Dubai, beyond the confines of a crowded setting, consider alternative vantage points that offer a more exclusive experience. Investing solely in the entrance fee might not provide the tranquil atmosphere one seeks when savoring Dubai’s breathtaking skyline.
Post-lunch, we embarked on a Desert Safari and dinner in the desert, priced at around 45€. The experience included a stop at a quadbike area, offering thrilling rides. Note to self: secure your phone tightly white riding the bike! If it falls in the sand, you may lose it along with your photos, forever. The ride through the sand dunes, accompanied by lively Arabic music, was both hilarious and exhilarating. The evening culminated in a desert camp, featuring camel rides, henna painting, dinner, and captivating shows including a dervish dance and fire display.
This guided tour provided by the travel agency made it possible for us to explore numerous places and activities in a short span, making our trip to UAE truly unforgettable. While the budget played a role, the guided tour added a layer of convenience and enriched our overall experience. The UAE adventure was indeed a journey to cherish.
